St. Nicholas, Carver, MN

St Nicholas in Carver Minnesota was an extensive restoration. It involved the dismantling of large portions of wall that were deteriorated or had been inadequately repaired in the past. All new caps were cast and set on all the pilasters. The entire church was re-pointed, and the windows were caulked. In total, roughly ten thousand brick were replaced.

In years past an attempt to preserve the pilasters was made by applying stucco to the outside of them. The result was deteriorating stucco and brick. The stucco and the first layer of brick under the stucco needed to be removed and the brick rebuilt with relief stones.

The result was a beautiful restoration which was recognized by the Preservation Alliance of Minnesota (PAM), and was awarded an Honor Award at the 2016 PAM award Gala.
